Keep On Track sprung a 20/1 surprise in the Punchestown Annual Membership 2014 Handicap Chase to credit amateur rider Brian Linehan with his first winner.

The well-backed Bendala Bleu looked like he was coming to win his race at the last but he veered away to his left and the two and a half miler was soon settled in Keep On Track's favour – the verdict being four lengths.

Successful handler Enda Bolger made the point: "I had the Ladies Cup in mind but I've messed up. Today was the cut-off date for going back point-to-pointing in the spring."

He then went on: "He's had a wind-op but having said all that you take these wins when they come along.

"He's a great jumper and he'll mix it between the cross-country races and these handicaps.

"Brian is a brother to Maurice who rides for Jonjo (O'Neill).

"He rides out for me two mornings a week and he rides out for John Thomas (McNamara) four mornings.

"He's a great lad – if he's to be there at half past he'll be there at twenty past.

"It's his first winner on the track and he's had six in point-to-points."

The Stewards requested a report from E. Bolger, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Keep On Track, placed first, as compared with its recent form. E. Bolger reported that his charge had a wind operation since his last run on 21st September at Listowel. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.
