Willie Mullins sent out the feature race winner for the second successive day at Listowel as Lagostovegas landed the Ladbrokes Ireland Handicap Hurdle.
The 5/2 favourite travelled smoothly under Ruby Walsh to lead approaching two out but needed a strong drive after the last to land the spoils. Davids Charm threw down a strong challenge on the run-in and only went down by a diminishing neck. Boherbuoy was a further length and a half away in third.
Mullins said, “She was very slick at the last and that was probably the difference between winning and losing. We were fortunate the winning post came soon enough.
“The prize-money is good and we took our chance on the ground. She would prefer more of a test of stamina.
“We will keep our options open with her on the Flat and the Cesarewitch is a likely target. She’s plenty big enough to go over fences next year.”
Mullins took the Listed race here yesterday with Riven Light, and Lagostovegas was the middle leg of a treble for the champion trainer on today's card.
Lagostovegas was providing Mullins with his first win in this €60,000 feature since Castle Windows way back in 1989.
