Secret Wizard bounced back to winning ways returning to a mile at Dundalk this evening.
Sheila Lavery 's charge had been in the money in starts over ten furlongs and a mile-and-a-half before the turn of the year at the course and was dropped in trip on his return.
Robbie Colgan produced him towards the inner to challenge over a furlong from home and the Sakhee gelding got his head in front inside the final 150 yards.
The 9/1 shot kept on gamely close home to see off Port Lions by half a length, with a further neck back to Hasselnott in a tight finish.
The stewards had a look at the finish with the winner drifting right close home but the result stood.
Lavery said:- “I know this is his fifth win and he’s loads of talent but you are never quite sure if he’s going to turn up on the day.
"His main job now is as Lady Kaya’s lead horse. He led her on a piece of work on Tuesday and I wasn’t sure what would turn up today.
“He can work to a much higher level of horse than he runs to on the track. Sometimes he just can’t be arsed to put it in!
“You have to try and convince him that he’s running away with you and then he’ll keep going."
