8/13 favourite Keats looked a horse who will stay a bit further when winning division two of the 1m maiden for colts and geldings for Aidan O’Brien.
The trainer was successful earlier in the day with Swiss Ace at Tipperary and Santiago at Royal Ascot. Nudged along in second place at halfway, the Galileo colt out of crack sprinter Airwave wore down the leader Frank Arthur (4/1) in the straight for a three quarters of a length victory.
The runner-up stuck to his guns well, and nothing else really got into the race, with Believe Jack (not unfancied) making a pleasing debut in third. The winner was fourth in a back-end Curragh maiden that’s working out well, before disappointing shortly afterwards at Newmarket.
“He’d a very good run at the Curragh and then disappointed a little bit but he’s a big horse and is still learning.
“He was babyish but I liked him.”
