Kauto Star's half brother Kauto Grand Mogul made a winning hurdle debut at Limerick today, in the www.limerickraces.ie Maiden Hurdle, scoring for trainer Liz Doyle and jockey Brian O'Connell.
Eight years younger than his legendary half brother Kauto Star, Kauto Grand Mogul (by Priolo) today jumped well and in the end stretched clear for an eight lengths win over Wexford Bridge
A delighted Doyle later stated “he has the same shape as Kauto (Star) but is a smaller version.
“He had a small setback last season and I ended up running him in more bumpers that I would have liked to protect his novice hurdle status. He isn't bred for bumpers though and jumps so well. I was very impressed with the way he kicked again turning in and he's entitled to go for a Graded hurdle next.
“He could manage fences later in his career but I don't know if he'd improve from his hurdle rating.”
