Kauto Star impresses at Down Royal
The feature race of the day The Jnwine.com Champion Chase was won by the Paul Nicholls trained Kauto Star ridden by champion jockey Ruby Walsh and owned by Clive Smith.
Walsh settled his mount in behind the leaders, improved to challenge travelling well 3 out, led before next and stayed on well to win by an impressive 11 lengths.
Nicholls said afterwards, "I'm delighted with that win, his homework had been very good before today and he jumped really well. He's definitely as good as he was last year. We'll go for the Betfair Chase in 3 weeks time at Haydock with him next and then all things going well we'll go for The King George at Kempton on Boxing Day."
William Hill has quoted Denman 5/4 from 1/1 and Kauto Star 5/2 from 7/2 to win Cheltenham Gold Cup
