Kalellshan wins again

Fri 30th Jul 2010, 17:39

Kalellshan became the first horse to win twice at the Festival this week when again successfully adopting front-running tactics in the Guinness Handicap Hurdle for amateur riders.

The 11/4 favourite, already a winner here on Monday evening, readily defied a 6lb penalty under James “Corky” Carroll.

The Charles Byrnes-trained gelding was sent straight into the lead, and proceeded to dominate the two and a quarter mile event with some superb jumping.

The seven-year-old travelled well into the straight and appeared to have plenty in reserve when beating Turner Brown by three and a half lengths.

“There is no other way of riding him, and he stays better than people give him credit for,” said Byrnes afterwards.

He added: “James got a breather into him, and he went away again. I suppose he may go to Listowel, and it's always an option to go back chasing.”
