Aidan O'Brien emerged with the bragging rights in his annual tussle with Dermot Weld when landing the much vaunted claregalway.ie EBF (two year old colts and geldings) Maiden, scoring with impressive juvenile Jamaica under the trainer's son Joseph O'Brien.
Weld, chasing his 24th win in the race, had led O'Brien 6-2 in the previous eight renewals of the race but his Postulation had to settle for clear second best today behind the well backed Jamaica (11/10 in the morning into 4/9f).
Afterwards O'Brien stated “he had a nice first run and came forward well and you'd have to be happy with that and he seemed to learn plenty.
“He won't mind the step up and could go for the Futurity Stakes next. He is a lovely natured horse with a nice rhythm and should get a mile.”
