Lord Kenmare gave trainer Michael Halford a mid-card double when landing the fifth race at Dundalk under Shane Foley.
The American-bred seven-year-old had won over course and distance three times and duly made it four in this mile contest. Foley had him fourth a furlong out, but brought him through in the final half furlong to win cosily by three parts of a length at odds of 6/1.
Michael Halford said: “He loves it here! He’s never won anywhere else other than the all-weather. He has come back down to a mark that he can be effective off. They can’t go fast enough for him as he loves coming from behind.” Valley Queen 5/1jf, was the horse headed by Lord Kenmare inside the furlong pole. She kept on for second, a length in front of 10/1 shot Cheers Buddy
Halford was successful in the fourth race with Zarib This was Lord Kenmare’s fifth win at Dundalk. He was racing off a mark of 56 having been dropped 6lbs.
