Hughies wins Webster Cup
Northern trainer Mervyn Torrens recorded the biggest success of his career when saddling Hughies Grey to win the Grade 2 Webster Cup at Navan today.
Hughies Grey, under a fine ride from Mike Darcy, was all out to hold the late challenge of See U Bob by a short head.
Afterwards Torrens stated “its onwards and upwards for Hughies Grey from here and we’ll aim him at the Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse next.”
“I wasn’t worried about the drop back in trip today as he had run well over two miles before. He is better going right-handed so Fairyhouse should suit him – today was my first Graded win.”
