French-import Henn See (11/8f) made a winning Irish debut for trainer Willie Mullins at Limerick today, landing the Signsplus Maiden Hurdle under jockey Sean O'Keeffe.
The son of Stickly Royal finished second in an Auteuil hurdle on his previous start last March and today reappeared when out-battling Itwasfate by half a length. Third-placed Cratloe Hill a newcomer, was a further length and three parts away and caught the eye under a hands and heels ride.
Cheltenham festival winner Sir Gerhard had earlier opened Mullins' Christmas account at Leopardstown and following the Champion Trainer's second winner of the day, jockey Sean O'Keeffe reported “it was a very tough performance and the ground is very hard work. In fairness he got headed but we jumped the last two really well and he battled to the line.
“He has plenty heart and battles well. He is a big strong horse who will improve the more he fills into himself. He'll be a good staying chaser.”
