Hattie Amarin gave jockey Niamh Fahey her first success over flights when winning the first division of the mares' handicap hurdle in Cork.

The 9/1 chance made headway entering the straight to take over at the head of affairs from Stellar Stow at the third last.

The five-year-old mare slightly wandered between the last two hurdles but kept up the gallop on the run-in to see it out by three lengths. Bright Sunbird (22/1) picked up a runner-up reward with Stellar Stow (14/1) third. Beechmount Maisie was a remote fourth at 80/1 but gave her supporters a place dividend.

Mark Fahey said: “We are delighted all the lads from the North County Syndicate are here including Cormac Costello who was playing for Dublin yesterday. My grandmother Maureen is also a part-owner.

“That was Niamh’s first winner over hurdles. She has ridden three winners in Ladies Races and the one thing she wanted to do was ride a winner against the lads.

“She’s a good jumper but can tank along. Niamh knows her very well and has done all the schooling and to be honest I’d be lost without her.

“We’ll find something on the Flat or over hurdles for her.”

Mark and Niamh Fahey are brother and sister.
