Jessica Harrington completed a quick across-the-card double at Downpatrick today as her Thegoaheadman followed up an hour-earlier winner at the Curragh, when landing the Tote Supporting Downpatrick Handicap Hurdle.
Ridden by Robbie Power, Thegoaheadman today ended a four-race point-to-point and seven-race hurdle losing spell when beating Dynamic Allen by a length and a quarter lengths.
Gold Cup and Grand National winning jockey Power later said "we didn't go very quick and I was anxious from the top of the hill that I wanted to get them on the stretch because he stays well, and he quickened up well down the hill. I knew he would stay well up the hill.
"It was just surprising for round here we didn't go that quick, so I wanted to get them on the stretch. I knew stamina was his forte.
"He's a nice horse going forward and hopefully he can keep improving and win another hurdle race or two but I think chasing will be his game eventually.
"He wants genuine good ground and that ground is beautiful. He doesn't want any firm in it. Fair play to Downpatrick they have created perfect jumping ground."
Trainer Harrington was at the Curragh where her Albigna landed the opening fillies' maiden.
