Harold benefits from Joe's blunder
A terrible blunder at the third last ended the chances of Mossey Joe and left Harold's Cross in front to claim the Galway Plate Trial at Down Royal.
Barry Geraghty had sent Mossey Joe on in the early stages and he was well clear before half-way.
Declan McNamara 's charge still had a healthy advantage turning for home but sprawled badly on landing three from home.
Harold's Cross inherited the lead and kept on well in the closing stages, under Alan Crowe, to record a six-length victory over Predateur
Geraghty popped Mossey Joe over the second last but he was guessy at the final fence as he completed in fifth.
"It's nice to win again. We had luck on our side tonight," said winner owner JP McManus' racing manager Frank Berry.
"He was a grand price. He wouldn't be good enough for the Galway Plate but would have a bit of a chance in the blazers."
McNamara was hoping that Mossey Joe pulls out sound in the morning after his blunder:-
"Barry said he just didn't take the fence quite right. He's tough and kept galloping.
"We'll see how he is in the morning before deciding on anything else."
