Due to a change in the going Anamba missed her engagement in the 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh last weekend, but she made a good start to her three-year-old career in the Listed Owenstown Stud Stakes at Naas today. The Godolphin filly, with William Buick up, led home a one, two, four for Michael Halford in the seven furlong heat.
The victorious 3/1 joint favourite chased the leaders on the rail, she was ridden to lead over a furlong out and she kept on well in the final furlong to defeat Hasanour by two lengths.
Sheila Lavery 's Sevenleft was a length and a three parts back in third, whilst the other Halford runner, Orcia was a head back in fourth.
"William liked her and the ground made all the difference. She'll go a mile no problem, and it's nice to get her started. She's in the Coronation, and we'll see how she comes forward," stated Halford.
"William said she was professional and hit the line strong. She's only come to herself recently after such a wet spring, and should improve from the run. It was quite a messy race and she will learn from it.
"Hasanour is a horse that runs to his rating every day of the week. He's in the Royal Hunt Cup."

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Yuften (GB), trained by J.P. Murtagh, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.
The Stewards enquired into possible interference shortly after leaving the stalls involving Hasanour (USA), ridden by S. Foley, In My Pocket ridden by D.P. McDonogh, Yuften (GB), ridden by C.R. King, Lily's Rainbow ridden by L.F. Roche, Assume ridden by W.M. Lordan, Fainleog ridden by Adrian O'Shea, and Embiran ridden by P.J. Smullen, where it appeared Embiran checked on the inner. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards apportioned no blame to any rider and took no further action.
Mr N.B. Wachman, Acting Steward, absented himself from this enquiry.
