Twenty five to one winner Waterloo Sunrise was a significant winner for those involved earlier on and another surprise victor in the last, Gretzky (20/1) won't be one that his trainer and jockey will forget in a hurry as it marked the occasion of their breakthrough success. The handler was Matthew Smith and the man in the plate, Ross O'Sullivan.
Many had chances in the concluding stages of the mile and a half www.dundalkstadium.com (Q.R.) Handicap but Gretzky ended up edging the argument by half a length from Regal Warrior
Kilmessan (of course the famous Maguires, Adrian and Jason hail from here), County Meath-based Smith said: "I've got a couple of horses for my father (Kevin). I only got the licence in December and this fella has run three times for me here.
"He loves the fast surface and Ross gave him a good ride. He didn't panic."
Ross O’Sullivan is a 20-year-old from Dun Laoghaire. He's presently at college and he's a nephew of trainer Mick Mulvany.
