The St. Patrick's Well Maiden Hurdle at Clonmel this evening was dominated in every way by 'Sizing' prefixed horses with Sizing Platinum impressively winning on debut for Henry De Bromhead and Andrew Lynch.
Sizing Platinum (well backed 7/4 favourite) was joined in the early season maiden by the Willie Mullins trained Sizing Sahara and the Jim Dreaper trained Sizing Solution
The complexion of the race changed at the second flight though as leader Sizing Sahara ducked right and unseated Ruby Walsh. This left Sizing Platinum to lead and from there, looked a winner at almost all stages. Sizing Solution was his nearest challenger for most of the race but 'Platinum' readily held him by seven lengths at the line.
Afterwards De Bromhead stated “I'm delighted with that. He came to us around Christmas time and has always looked a nice horse.
“I was thinking of running him in a bumper but Alan and Ann (Potts, owners) aren't pushed about bumpers and we couldn't have asked for a better start there. He was very green out in front after Ruby's horse went.
“I'd say he'll run away as long as the ground doesn't get too quick and I know Alan and Ann love going to Killarney in July so that's something to look at. He's a big baby and can only improve.
