The Derby winning colours of Godolphin, and Masar, were carried to victory in the Listed Glencairn Stakes at Leopardstown today as the Jim Bolger trained Zorion claimed his first Stakes win under jockey Kevin Manning.
The son of Smart Strike and the Denis Hogan trained Allegio fought out a close finish to the mile contest, with Zorion coming out a head ahead at the line.
Bolger was recording his second Stakes winner of the season, following Turret Rocks' success in the Listed Victor McCalmont Memorial Stakes nine days ago, and following Zorion's win, commented “six furlongs was too short (last time): he showed plenty of boot around here over seven and I saw a nice race in the Curragh over six but it didn’t work!
“I always felt he was up to this grade and I’m not sure where he’ll go next but hopefully we will find something for him at the Derby meeting in the Curragh.”
