Glengouly was sent off a solid favourite for the Red Mills EBF Ladies Auction Maiden Hurdle and survived a untidy leap at the second last to land the spoils.

Jody Townend produced her mount, travelling well, to dispute turning for home but the Willie Mullins-trained gelding got things wrong at the penultimate flight.

He soon recovered and edged ahead from long-time leader Sam's Choice going to the last in the two-and-a-half mile contest.

The 2/1 favourite was better at the final obstacles as he galloped on strongly to record a length-and-a-half success.

Glengouly, a former point-to-point winner, had unseated when stumbling on his hurdling debut at Limerick over Christmas.

Mullins said:- “Jody said he was a bit idle in front and that’s why he made the mistake at the second last and was looking around. He gave her a perfect ride up to that.

“I’m not afraid to go out in trip with him now. He’ll go 2m6f or three miles his next run.”
