Jockey Leigh Roche will have extra reason to celebrate his 21st birthday tomorrow, having partnered Cookie Crumbles to her maiden win, on her 24th start, in the Dundalk Stadium - Light Up Your Night Handicap at Dundalk this evening.
Roche, based with Dermot Weld, moved the daughter of Bahamian Bounty to lead a furlong out before staying on for an all out win over fast finishing Tamujin
Winning trainer Ado McGuinness later stated “at long last! She's been a bit of a heart break and has had bits and pieces of problems and should have won in Wolverhampton.
“She works at home with horses rated 80 but doesn't show it on the track. I always thought she was better over six furlongs but Leigh gave her a good ride and she got the seven (furlongs) well.” Gold Falcon stablemate of the winner, was the morning gamble of the race having been backed from 20/1 into 7/1 before eventually finishing fifth.
