Tom Foley registered a win on Red Mills Day at Gowran today as his Toushan landed the At The Races Careys Cottage Cup Handicap Chase, twenty years after the trainer's legendary Danoli landed the 1996 renewal of the featured Red Mills Hurdle.
Toushan, under Roger Loughran, was in front when landing awkwardly over the final fence but showed plenty resolve to shake off the challenge of Witness Of Fashion on the run-in, for a half length win.
After the race, a delighted Foley joked “there's always pressure at the local track to come up with a winner so that's the pressure off!”
He added “we said at the start that we'd go for the hurdle and then when we seen the entries thought maybe the chase might be the one. Yesterday we were sorry we didn't go for the hurdle the way it cut up.
“It's nice to get the win as he's after being unlucky. He fell twice and is probably as good a jumper as you ever put over a fence.
“Where he goes now will depend on what the handicapper does.”
