- Foley on the mark again at Wexford
Foley on the mark again at Wexford
Shane Foley rode a winner on the Andrew Kinsella-trained Max Almighty at the last meeting here a fortnight back and the Graiguenamanagh, Co. Kilkenny native kept his local supporters happy by getting the favourite, Elas Child home in the opener.
This Michael Halford-trained 7/2 shot was up with the pace all the way before Charleville took over into the straight. However the chestnut daughter of Noverre, equipped with cheek-pieces, rallied to gain the upper hand by a short head when the runner-up drifted left inside the final furlong.
"I went to school in New Ross (Good Counsel College) so I'd suppose this would be one of my local tracks," said the 7Ib claimer. That nursery of racing has of course produced Aidan O'Brien, Tom O'Brien, Tom Doyle and Matt O'Connor among a host of others. (EM)
