County Kilkenny native Shane Foley completed a near 22/1 double at his home course, Gowran Park, riding his second winner for new boss Jessica Harrington on Whirling Dervish in the BetVictor Proudly Supporting Irish Racing Race.
Mrs Harrington's horses had performed quite well earlier, including Got Trumped runner-up in the penultimate event.
Here Whirling Dervish was heavily backed - 5/2 into 6/4 favourite - and he delivered by a length from original market-leader Twilight Payment
Foley also landed the featured fillies handicap, race two on the programme, for Pat Fahy aboard Stormy Belle
“A little juice in the ground is what he needs and he got it today which was great. Hopefully we'll head to the Vintage Crop now,” said Mrs Harrington on Whirling Dervish.
“He stays well, he'll go two miles and will probably go further than two miles.
“Last summer we didn't get the ground for him and that's why he was so lightly raced.
“There are plenty of options for him and he'll be entered in all those long distance races. He'll to travel to England if necessary and he's a nice horse to have.”
