Check Your Pockets nabbed five-timer chasing Waitingforthedays close home in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF (Fillies) Handicap at Gowran today, as the John Kiely trained winner put a recent disappointing performance behind her.
Check Your Pockets, a daughter of City Zip and today ridden by Declan McDonogh, trailing her four rivals at Roscommon on July 9, having won 11 days previously at Tipperary. Today she bounced back to form when arriving with a wet sail to edge past Waitingforthedays near the line, for a head win.
Top weight Waitingforthedays, for trainer Joseph O'Brien, was narrowly failing to collect a fifth consecutive handicap success, having won at Leopardstown, twice, and at Fairyhouse and Dundalk in June and July.
Kiely later said “it's good to see Roscommon out the door anyway. I was very disappointed with her there.
“I don't know if she was in season, we never found out, but it wasn't her run.
“She likes racing and likes to come from behind.”
