Newcomer Fest Deiz served up a 50-1 shock in the bumper at Kilbeggan for handler Kieran Purcell.

John Barry delivered the four-year-old gelding between horses approaching the final furlong and he strode away by four and a half lengths. Santana Plessis the 6/5 favourite, had no answers in second. He was two and a quarter lengths in front of Watch Guard (9/2).

Kieran Purcell said: "We knew he was a lovely horse but we hadn't an awful lot done with him and he was very green.

“He'll improve an awful lot from that run. He did it well and he loves that ground, he loves good ground and he has a good action.

“We'll probably look for a winners' bumper. We'll see what comes up and how he comes on.

“We knew he was a lovely horse at home but he wasn't brought away anywhere, so we didn't know what we had really, only that we had a nice horse.”
