Mr Scarlet was popular with punters this morning for the Irish Stallions Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden (Plus 10 Race) at Naas on the back of a promising debut fourth placing at Fairyhouse ten days ago. He duly went and delivered for Sheila Lavery under Gary Carroll.

Eventually returned a 7/1 chance, the Dandy Man gelding chased the leaders, he was ridden to lead a furlong out and he kept on well in the final furlong to beat Mayleaf Shine and Blitz by one and three parts of a length and a head.

Promising first-timer Slumming Angel kept on well for fourth, a further neck back.

"I bought him from Joe Foley at Fairyhouse and paid more for him (72,000 euro) than I have for any horse," revealed Ms Lavery.

"He's always been a very smart horse, and Gary said the last day that he would win next time. He's still fat and has loads more improvement.

"Gary said he put his ears back and really wants to race. He's got a great attitude and just eats and sleeps, hence he's fat!"

The Stewards enquired into an incident over one furlong from the finish involving Born To Be ridden by D.P. McDonogh, unplaced, De Boss Man ridden by C. O'Donoghue, unplaced and Arabian Verse (GB), ridden by J.B. McDonald, unplaced, where it appeared that Born To Be received a bump from De Boss Man. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that the incident was accidental in nature and took no further.

The Stewards enquired into an incident over one furlong from the finish involving Born To Be, ridden by D.P. McDonogh, unplaced, Impart (GB), ridden by P.J. Smullen, unplaced and Arabian Verse (GB), ridden by J.B. McDonald, unplaced, where it appeared that Born To Be was checked having run short of room. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that the incident was accidental in nature and took no further action.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Impart (GB), trained by D. K. Weld, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.
