Another battling performance by a frontrunner at Leopardstown was rewarded as rank outsider Fairview Star made a mockery of his 20/1 odds at Leopardstown.
The Eoin Griffin-trained seven-year-old made the journey up from Kilkenny and made all in the mile and a half handicap ably assisted by Declan McDonogh.
He fended off 6/1 shot Aladdins Cave by half a length with a further length and a quarter back to Beach Of Falesa (11/2) in third.
Beach Of Falesa looked like she would throw down the gauntlet in the final furlong but she couldn’t quite get on terms with the front two. She had been 16/1 in morning trading and was supported from 7/1 to 11/2 at the track.
Eoin Griffin’s dad Sean was representing him today and he said: “He’ll run over hurdles next. He would like better ground and has been running well at Dundalk.
“When he gets his coat he’ll be good. Eoin has about 20 horses in for racing. They are mostly jumpers and are all good ground horses so here’s hoping for a dry summer.”
Owner Dervill Dolan from Offaly was in attendance in the winners’ enclosure.
