Trainer Gordon Elliott won the concluding Ronan Lawlor Memorial EBF Mares Bumper at Gowran today for the second consecutive year as his Queens Brook very much impressed when scoring under jockey Jamie Codd.
Elliott won last year's renewal with smart Daylight Katie, now a Grade 3 winning hurdler, and today's winning daughter of Shirocco could be better as she justified strong 11/10 favouritism (from 6/4) when routing her rivals.
Queens Brook beat runner-up Nelly's Money by 21 lengths with 12 lengths to third-placed Lorvon Pearl
Elliott, who also won the opening race today with Saint D'Oroux, stated “she's a good mare. We thought a lot of her coming here today but were a bit nervous with the ground going so heavy.
“I think she's a good mare. You have Aintree, Fairyhouse and Punchestown for her — not Cheltenham though. We'll talk to Noel (Moran, owner), he's away on holidays for a couple of days.
“It's great for Noel and Valerie as they are investing a lot of money into the yard so it's very important for them.
“I think she'll go on any ground although I wouldn't run her on firm.”
