Trainer Gordon Elliott completed a Listowel double today as his Brendan Scully-owned winning four-year-old ex-point-to-pointer Heroes Rise (9/4) landed the Shay Rooney Opportunity Maiden Hurdle under jockey Carl Millar.
The Sandmason-sired gelding won on pointing debut for John Paul Brennan last February and having subsequently changed hands at public auction for £85,000, today quickened clear of his rivals from the second-last, to beat Napper Tandy by seven lengths.
Elliott had won today's opener with the Sam Ewing-partnered Shecouldbeanything and following his second success, jockey Millar said “the yard are in class form and all the summer horses are in and flying. I liked this horse, he had done nothing wrong on his previous runs although greeness probably beat him.
“The conditions for today's race suited better and he travelled, settled, jumped and did everything right.”
