Le Grand Chene managed his eighth career win, all of which have come from handicap ratings below just 93, in the Download The Racing Post Android App Handicap Chase at Downpatrick today, completing a double for his trainer Gordon Elliott.
The son of Turgeon had been successful six times prior to joining Elliott in 2015 and was gaining his second win at Downpatrick today, when staying on gamely under jockey Bryan Cooper.
“Most years he manages a win or two” said Elliott afterwards.
The Grand National and Gold Cup winning trainer added “he's another of mine that could be heading to Perth this time of year - he is what he is."
Le Grand Chene's wins have each come from official ratings of 75,79,85,93,88,86,87 and from a mark of just 93 today.
