Well bred Haziya landed a gamble (morning 4s, returned 13/8f) to win on her first run for trainer Joseph O'Brien today, routing her rivals to win Leopardstown's Treo Eile Retraining Racehorses Handicap on handicap debut.
The Aga Khan-bred relation of Harzand was placed in three maidens for Michael Halford last year and having sold with a breeding cert for €36,000 last November, today reappeared in fine fettle under Mikey Sheehy, winning very easily by three lengths from Jungle Cove
Afterwards O'Brien stated “she won well. We thought she was working nicely and capable of winning off her mark but I didn't see that coming to be honest.”
Hariya holds a Leopardstown entry next Wednesday, for which she would carry a mandatory 7lbs penalty, and he added “it wasn't the intention to come back here on Wednesday but we might have to regroup on that.
“It's nice to get a winner today after hitting the crossbar a couple of times.”
O'Brien was earlier out of luck with Agartha filling second place in the 1,000 Guineas Trial and Buckaroo being pipped by a short-head in the Ballysax Stakes.
