Trainer Donnacha O'Brien and jockey Gavin Ryan completed a neat double at Leopardstown today, completing the feat in the Leopardstown Members Handicap with well-bred Simply Glorious
Out of Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Misty For Me, Simply Glorious notched her important maiden win at Dundalk last November and today added a handicap success, holding on for a neck win over Enthrallment which met interference over a furlong out.
O'Brien and Ryan had earlier won the Ballysax Stakes with Piz Badile and following the double, the handler reported “I fancied her in Dundalk (March 4) but she ran bad for whatever reason. I thought she was well handicapped and thankfully she showed it today.
“I think ten furlongs is fine for her, eight is probably too sharp, especially around Dundalk and we found that out the last day. I wouldn't rule out 12 down the line.
“We'll see what the handicapper does, she could go for another handicap and if she keeps progressing we could try for black-type somewhere. She's got a good pedigree so she's a valuable filly and if she could get black-type down the line it would be fantastic. That would be the long-term goal.”
