Rocky Dreams (9/4) came from last-to-first under apprentice jockey Daniel King to win the opening Crowne Plaza Hotel Dundalk Claiming Race at Dundalk today, and later went unclaimed.
King, a brother to retired flat jockey Connor King, produced the son of Muhaarar from rear to lead inside the final furlong and beat 6/4 favourite No Speed Limit by a length and a quarter.
There were no takers for the winner at €15,000, although runner-up No Speed Limited was the subject of a friendly claim by his connections, at €8,000.
Winning trainer Denis Hogan wasn't present and afterwards 16 year old King commented “I was struggling to go with them early on but as we turned in, he picked up and won going away in the end. The run in Laytown (two days previously) sweetened him up.”
It was a fourth win for King, who added “I’m apprenticed to Denis but I’m still at school in fifth year. I’m up at his yard at the weekends and during the school holidays as well.”
