Dramatic Mayo News at Ballinrobe
Miradane, left, holds on at Ballinrobe with Martin Ferris in the saddle

There was a dramatic conclusion to the Mayo News Handicap Hurdle as Martin Mooney's effort on joint favourite, Wooly Tom to go up the inside of winner Miradane on the run-in, ended with the door being closed in his face at Ballinrobe.
Miradane, winner of a course maiden hurdle from last night's victor, Mic Milano, back in June, then fended off Rare Symphony by three parts of a length. Wooly Tom ended up a neck back in third.
The sweet-travelling Wooly Tom 'missed' the last and then he challenged on the rail but with an 'elbow' on the fence, Ferris kept straight on Mouse Morris' Miradane and Mooney effectively ended up going for a gap that wasn't there.
It was no surprise when the steward's enquiry resulted in no alteration. (EM)
