"She had a nice easy lead there and did it well," said trainer John Feane after his Dragons Call caused a 10/1 surprise in the Handipak Play Live On 25th July Handicap at Limerick.
The Dragon Pulse filly settled nicely in front for Nathan Crosse, and to the delight of those that supported her in from 14/1, she opened up from under two furlongs out.
In the final furlong Dragons Call kept on strongly to defeat Parkers Hill by two and a quarter lengths.
"She won a Premier Handicap last year and took a couple of runs to get her right this year," further reflected Feane.
"My horses are coming back right now and seven furlongs opens up a few doors and there are fillies' handicaps for her."
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Fit For Function (GB), trained by Joseph G. Murphy, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.
The Stewards requested a report from John James Feane, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Dragons Call, placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that his charge appeared to appreciate the step up in trip in what he felt was a lesser race and felt a combination of both had helped to bring about the apparent improvement in form. Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
