Back from Dubai where he rode Abstraction into fourth place in the opener at Meydan yesterday, Fergal Lynch made it two on the night at Dundalk as Cool Athlete got up on the line to win the Crowne Plaza Leading Jockey & Trainer Handicap.
An hour earlier on the mark aboard George Kent's Shanooan here Lynch had to switch out David and Melanie Marnane's Cool Athlete, to get a clear run in the final two furlongs.
Now five times a winner on the polytrack here over a mile and also victorious at Tipperary, the eight-year-old nailed The Black Devil (10s into 7s) on the line. The verdict was a nose.
"Thank God I came back. I'm going back out (to Dubai) on Monday.
"He would have been a bit unlucky if he hadn't won as he was stopped in his run. I didn't think I'd got up.
"He's better coming through horses," divulged Lynch in the aftermath. (AM & EM)
