Double for Mullins as Carolina rockets home
Willie Mullins produced yet another newcomer to win as Supreme Carolina took the Lynch's Bakery Mares Flat Race with his son Patrick aboard at the odds of 11/4 joint favourite.
Mullins was recording a double on the day after Pozyc took the feature race under Ruby Walsh earlier in the afternoon.
The winning 4yo daughter of Traditionally is a half sister to stablemate and one time winner over hurdles Strain Of Fame.
Carolina, the dam of the winner, was also trained by Mullins and she won one over hurdles in Sligo back in 2003 and was placed in five, three on the level and two over hurdles. Milano Bay led the field for much of the race off an ordinary pace. He then faded as they approached the straight as She Ranks Me (3/1) took up the running. The winner travelled strongly alongside that one as the approached the furlong pole and went on from there to score easily by six and a half lengths. Andreas Pride stayed kept on to take second at 8/1 for her trainer Myles Sunderland while the other 11/4 joint favourite High Class Show could only manage third a length and three parts back.
Assistant trainer to Willie Mullins, Gary Davis said afterwards: "She was very good. It was a bit unexpected first time out and on that type of ground.
"She finished like a rocket and it bodes well for her for the winter.
"She is the first horse to run for the owners (the Supreme Horse Racing Club) and they have eight in training with Willie."
