Gillian Callaghan gets a good tune out of her string of horses and the Co Meath trainer added another string to her bow as she saddled 20/1 shot Coldwinters to score in the Greville Arms Hotel Handicap Hurdle.
Ridden by Davy Condon (recording a double after the win of Cause of Causes in the first), the 9yo son of Flemensfirth raced in mid-division before making good progress to get on terms with the leader I Never Knew That before the third last.
After a nip and tuck battle between the two from there the winner stayed on best on the run-in to score by just a half a length at the line with a further three parts of a length back to the third.
The two Tuesday night winners at Ballinrobe, I Never Knew That (8/1) and Turnonthegas (11/8fav) finished second and third while Jack the Ref was a further length and three parts back in fourth for Philip Rothwell at 7/1.
The winner was having his second start in handicap company today and was making his first start since July of last year.
He had shown very little on the track but was placed twice on in point-to-point's when trained by James McAuley.
Winning trainer Gillian Callaghan said afterwards: "He has had a few niggles and was off for a while but a bit of patience has paid off.
"The step up in trip and the ground suited him today."
