The David O’Brien trained Double Windsor caused a 20/1 upset when winning the Cork GAA Clubs Go Racing Maiden Hurdle at Cork today, scoring under former Champion Jockey Paul Townend.
The son of Windsor Knot improved to lead past Whatsinthecorner at the final fence and in the end scored a nine and a half lengths win over that same 20/1 priced rival.
Afterwards O’Brien stated “I’ll give the jockey the praise for that one - I told him to take him easy nbut he said they were flat to the boards all the way in a three-miler so he took a chance and took his time.
“He’s a great fun horse for (owner) John Grant, who is 90 years of age and his Icelip got cut in Ballinrobe so that is some bit of compensation for him. He has been placed more times and it’s grand for a horse who cost E800 (as a yearling).”
