Dew drops for Regal Rumpus' win
Thurles' six race/five chase card was certain to provide action and, following Apt Approach s costly final fence blunder in the previous race, the Templemore Handicap Chase saw clear leader The Dew At Night come a cropper at the final fence, leaving Regal Rumpus to win under Niall Madden.
The Dew At Night, under Brian Byrnes, had made all the running, and although clear at the final fence, jumped the obstacle well but took a tired looking fall at the landing side. His exit left the way clear for Regal Rumpus to score by ten lengths.
Afterwards Regal Rumpus' trainer Arthur Moore reported “he had a lovely racing weight today but had been disappointing. There are very few opportunities for lowly rated two mile chasers but we were very lucky to win today.”
