The Gordon Elliott trained Desoto County returned to winning ways in the Foley's Bar & Off Licence Hurdle at Sligo today, showing a willing attitude to win under Jack Kennedy.
Desoto County, returned 6/4, had been a beaten favourite on each of his last three starts and despite being morning-favourite for today’s race, was usurped for that position at the off by 11/8 shot So Young
The winning seven year old son of Hernando chased leader Get Out Of Jail from the second last flight and in the end edged past close home, to score a length win. So Young weakened from the second last flight to finish last of the five runners.
Elliott later commented “he got his head in front and it might do him the world of good.
“He'll probably go back jumping fences sooner rather than later; he’s won a couple of races now and it's job done. There’s a good handicap hurdle at Perth at the next meeting and he might have a rattle at that.”
