The Liz Doyle trained Thekingofconnemara gained a deserved and overdue maiden win at Cork today, winning the Friday July 11th BBQ Maiden Hurdle to complete a double for jockey Adrian Heskin.
The son of Vinnie Roe had finished second, third (twice), fourth (twice), fifth and sixth when not beaten too far on each of his previous seven starts but passed the post in front today, for a length and a quarter win over Rock Gone
Afterwards Doyle said “he deserved that as he has been very consistent and the form of his Leopardstown run (in March) has worked out well.”
“He probably needs this better ground so will be kept on the go and we'll look for a novice or winners of one hurdle next.”
Heskin, who had a career best tally of 29 wins last season, was completing a double having earlier steered Kilnockin Lady to win.
