A change of scenery proved just the trick for D’bru Na Boinne who opened his account at the tenth attempt in the Thurles Beginners Chase.
The Califet gelding has only recently moved from John Joe Walsh’s yard to Ross O’Sullivan and was fitted here with a tongue tie and cheek pieces for the first time.
Andrew Lynch had the 7/1 chance up with the pace throughout and, after making a mistake at the penultimate fence, settled down for a protracted duel with Can’t Be Done.
The five-year-old landed just in front over the last, and proved the stronger on the run-in to prevail by half a length. Barna Venture was a further five lengths adrift in third.
O'Sullivan said, @Andrew had ridden him a good few times at home recently and said his jumping was key to him. He is a horse who loses confidence when he misses a fence and he felt today if he could get him in a beginners' chase and was left along, he'd be fine and he gained ground jumping today.
"It wasn't the strongest of races but he had experience and got confidence and all credit to Andrew Lynch really.
"I have the horse a couple of months and Andrew has ridden him work once a week for the last couple of weeks and knows him and it was great to get him."
