That Boy David gained a deserved success when opening his account at Dundalk this afternoon.
Ger Lyon's charge had been placed on four of his five previous starts but made no mistake today.
Gary Carroll sent his mount into the lead a furlong-and-a-half out and he galloped on strongly in the closing stages to post a two-and-a-quarter length success over Russian Soul
The winner had been easy to back on track, drifting from 5/2 out to 7/2. Free Spin was sent off 3/1 favourite and finished third.
"In fairness to him he's been beaten by a nice one everytime," said Lyons.
"We ran him in horrible ground at Bellewstown as he's so straight forward but once Gary asked him the wheels just spun.
"He ran there as he was on route to the sales but he was stiff after that and didn't go. Then this race came out of the blue.
"We know ground has been the issue. I've always liked him and bought two more Kodiacs because of him.
"It's the same for everyone at the moment the ground is shocking. My yard is suffering as the horses want good ground.
"Hopefully they'll put on more races here."
