Festival punters suffered their second 66/1 shock of the week in a beginners chase at Galway as Scamall Dubh came out on top after a thrilling finish to the Guinness Dublin Porter Beginners Chase.
Talk The Lingo scored at the same odds over fences here on Tuesday, and this time it was the Mouse Morris-trained gelding that came to the bookmakers rescue.
The six-year-old son of Oscar was one of a sextet of runners in contention as they rounded the home turn in this 2m6f event, and only a length separated the first five home as Scamall Dubh just stayed on best under Mark Enright to beat Marinero by a neck.
Don't Tell No One, Taglietelle and Lake Takapuna were all close up, and the result was confirmed after an enquiry into possible interference in the closing stages.
Enright said, "Mouse genuinely fancied him and his son Jamie rides him out at home and also fancied him. He travelled well all the way, maybe a bit too well, and he missed the last a bit but he galloped all the way up the run-in. He's very game.
"It's lovely to get a winner here as it's a big stage and a lot of us don't get many chances at the likes of Cheltenham or Aintree."
Mouse Morris said, "He jumped well and stays all day."
