Curragh Golan battled well under Mikey Butler to win the countysligoraces.com Opportunity Maiden Hurdle at Sligo today, for the winner jockey's father Michael Butler.
The son of Golan rallied well from the last to deny 5/2 favourite Sliabh Glath by a neck at the line.
Butler was subsequently handed a one day suspension for using his whip with excessive frequency and not giving his mount time to respond while Tim Carroll, rider of the runner-up, was himself handed a two day suspension for using his whip with excessive force, frequency and not giving his mount time to respond.
Butler Snr was not immediately available for comment but the win was the Piltown, Co Kilkenny based trainer's first jumps winner since Mossman Park in June '10.
