Coolbane West has turned the corner after gaining an overdue success at Gowran in September, following up today in the Paddy Power Paddys Numbers Handicap Hurdle at Cork.
Phillip Enright did the steering on Liam Burke's Westerner gelding on this occasion, and in the two and a half miler he got the better of Mississippi River by three and a quarter lengths.
"He settled and jumped very well and Liam told me to ride him confidently and it worked out well," reported Enright.
Coolbane West was returned a 14/1 chance whilst 7/2 favourite Call Vinnie had to make do with third place, a length off the principals.
Mr P.W. Mullins, rider of Fairy Court trained by W.P. Mullins, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount ran very keen.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Fairy Court, trained by W.P. Mullins, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to have burst a blood vessel.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Living Next Door trained by A.J.Martin, at the request of the Stewards, who received a report from the trainers representative, that this horse had scoped badly post race. Samples were taken analysis.
