Conquest Casually claims Tatts Cup
Dermot Weld registered his fifth success in the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup at The Curragh today, saddling a 1-2, with winner Casual Conquest and Famous Name
Casual Conquest, under stable jockey Pat Smullen, made all for a comfortable five and a half lengths win over stablemate Famous Name, under Mick Kinane.
Afterwards Weld stated "Casual Conquest is a very good horse and I was wrong to run him on very firm ground at Newmarket the last day, when he may also have needed the run."
He added "I left the tactics to Pat (Smullen) today and while the ground was extremely testing, he won very well."
"He may now get a break for the summer and will come back for the Irish Champion Stakes and the Prix De l'Arc in Longchamp. Famous Name, on the otherhand, may drop back in trip to a mile on his next start."
The win was Weld's fifth in the contest, and his second (Grey Swallow & Casual Conquest) since the race gained Group 1 status in 1999.
Thomas Weekesmas Weekes gained Group 1 status in 1996.
