- Colonel in command at Killarney
Colonel in command at Killarney
Colonel Mortimer landed the concluding O'Keeffe's Marquee Hire Rathmore Ladies Flat Race in the style of a useful prospect as he bolted-up by a distance under Nina Carberry at Killarney.
The 15/8 favourite led about two and a half furlongs out and the contest was soon over as he put his market rival, Valhalla Boy firmly in his place.
A rare foray for point-to-point king, Enda Bolger, into the bumper sphere, the Bruree handler remarked: "It was probably an ordinary enough contest but he couldn't have been any more impressive. He had a bit of leg trouble and he wants soft ground. He might go for a winners bumper as he looks pretty smart."
Meanwhile Carberry said: "He mightn't have beaten much but in fairness to him he could have won by half the track."
