Lowly weighted Peshkova was rookie trainer Ray Cody's third career winner at Cork today as the Ballygallon Stud owned filly landed the Matchbook Irish EBF (Fillies) Handicap under jockey Andrew Slattery.
Peshkova's weight of 8st7lbs was lightened by Slattery's valuable 5lbs claim and in the race the four year old filly, on her second start for Cody, ran out the half-length winner from Galtee Mist
Cody's three racecourse winners as an jockey came for then boss Aidan O'Brien in 1994/95 and until last year assisted trainer Ellmarie Holden. Peshkova was Cody's third career success, each for Ballygallon Stud, having gained his initial winner with Razoul at Kilbeggan on July 19.
Today he was on lead-up duty but reported "I'm delighted to win a lovely pot (E14,750 to the winner) with her. Things didn't go her way at Gowran earlier this week but Andy (Slattery) said that she was a little claustrophobic when horses came around her, which meant she got taken back further than he wanted.
"It was a good run which put her right for today and she won well. She's a lovely filly and I'd say trying those nice handicaps off a low weight could suit well."
